Russell Taylor is a well-seasoned artist having travelled around the globe performing in London, Amsterdam and Paris, sharing the stage with artists such as Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott and Indie Arie. His unique personal style is stamped in his latest offering War of Hearts which proves to be yet another glimpse into his natural talent as a soulful songwriter. We had a brief opportunity to have a chat with this charming artist as he debuts his latest single.
Q: So tell us a little bit about your new record that’s about to drop? How did it come about?
RT: War Of Hearts is the single that drops today! I had been recording in Atlanta with Brandon Thomas and my band. I went to LA for a few writing sessions, and this song came up in less than an hour. It was the song that shaped the entire album. The US TV Show Scandal inspired the lyrics.
Q: Who did you collaborate with for this record?
RT: An awesome producer Tim Kvasnosky of Blackjumpsuit Studios in LA. We worked together on a few tracks on Somewhere In Between, my first album.
Q: Who have been some of your biggest musical influences up to this point?
RT: There are so many: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Young, Radiohead, Crosby Stills and Nash, that’s not even the tip of the iceberg. I could be typing forEVER!
Q: What do you want your listeners and fans to come away with after listening to War of Hearts?
RT: I want them to be able to identify with the simple human jagged love experience. Love saves all…but not without some tough spots.
Q: What does the rest of 2013 hold for Russell Taylor?
RT: We are releasing the album War of Hearts in early fall. And, different rounds of tours. I am currently doing promo runs throughout the US. I hope to make it to Europe before Christmas and hopefully throw Australia in there!
